Description

The pages hold breathtakingly, realistic lines and depth with strong, sweet lessons for all ages underneath it all. Books by The Fan Brothers are always beautifully illustrated with a lovely story and The Barnabus Project is no exception. Dreaming of seeing the outside world, he's planning an escape with the help of the other Failed Projects. The story flows well, however I do feel it was slightly rushed at the end (I would’ve loved to have seen more of the escape and how the ‘failed projects’ lived in the outside world once they were free).

Our class brainstormed reasons why we loved this book, and then broke into groups to find support for our reasons. From the imagination of two acclaimed picture book creators, together for the first time, this dreamlike picture book is a magical ode to Victorian lunch wagons. The Fan Brothers give an original tweak to the too-big-pet story line, often seen with dinosaurs, that will charm readers of all ages. In comparison the spread where the projects actually see the "mountains", the pages have natural, warm and bright colours used. But Barnabus may have to reach the outside world sooner than he thought, because the Green Rubber Suits are about to recycle all Failed Projects .I’m not really sure if this is the best way to introduce the idea of how foolish the quest for perfection can be. The Barnabus Project won the 2020 Governor General’s Award for English-language children's illustration, [1] and the 2021 TD Canadian Children’s Literature Award. Just as the September heat wave passed and was replaced by storms a team of 11 brave hikers from Business Data Partners set off before sunrise to start the National 3 Peaks Challenge.

Beautiful in depth illustrations and carefully chosen words which have deep meaning on many different levels. Noses sniff the air as mouthwatering smells waft down city streets, luring growling bellies to the Night Owl. It almost felt like it was just out there to set it up for the series or movie or something that's coming next. This provided a great amount of discussion with the children about feelings and emotions and they shared their experiences.
